Social Security Office Reports Bombings in Three Southern Border Provinces, Commits to Full Support for Insured Persons

The Social Security Office reported bomb attacks in the three southern border provinces, expressing concern and readiness to fully support the rights and benefits of insured persons.


On 9 February 2026, reports indicated that on Sunday, 11 January 2026, bombings occurred in the three southern border provinces: Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani. The attacks targeted 11 locations at gas stations, causing multiple injuries, including among persons insured under the Social Security Act.

Ms. Kanchana Phulkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, expressed concern and commitment to care for insured employees affected by the incidents. She is closely monitoring the situation and pledges to fully protect the legal rights and benefits of insured persons. The Social Security Office's report on the situation in the three southern provinces is summarized as follows.

Yala Province There were four bombings at gas stations: PTT gas station at Ban Banna Ngdama, Kabang District; PTT station in Bannang Sata District; PTT station in Bukekala along the Yala-Raman Road, Village 6, Budi Subdistrict, Mueang District; and PTT station on Highway 418 (Pattani–Yala), inbound to Yala city, Tham Sap Subdistrict. Two insured persons were injured: Ms. Norisan Jemasong and Ms. Sumaiyah Jemasong, both insured under Section 33. They are currently stable and have returned home for recovery.

Narathiwat Province Five bombings occurred at PTT gas stations located in Ban Khok, Juab Subdistrict, Cho Airong District; Pasemas branch, Su-ngai Kolok District; Tanyongmas branch, Ra-ngae District; Dusongyo branch, Chanae District; and Waeng branch, Waeng District. Two insured persons were injured: Mr. Areemi Je-wae, age 20, and Ms. Waerusri Wa-mama, age 33, both insured under Section 33. They are currently receiving treatment at Waeng Hospital.

Pattani Province Two bombings occurred at PTT gas stations: Bana station in Mueang Pattani District and Kapo station in Kapo District. Three insured persons were injured, all insured under Section 33: Mr. Romsee Wanawe, Ms. Ibtisam Sengsa, who have returned home, and Ms. Rohani Hama, whose condition is improving.

The Secretary-General of the Social Security Office discussed assistance and benefits for insured employees affected by the incidents. Businesses damaged and temporarily closed mean that insured persons laid off are entitled to unemployment benefits of 60% of wages for up to 180 days. Currently, 139 insured persons have been laid off. The office also provides guidance on benefits related to work-related injuries from the compensation fund, covering medical expenses ranging from 65,000 to 1,000,000 baht.

  • For treatment at state hospitals, insured persons will receive reimbursement for actual medical expenses until the end of treatment.
  • Compensation for income loss is 70% of monthly wages, payable for up to one year.
  • Compensation for loss of limbs or work capacity is proportionate to the degree of disability.
  • In cases of permanent disability, compensation is 70% of the monthly wage for life.

The Social Security Office expresses sympathy for the injured and their families and reiterates its commitment to promptly coordinate care and assistance to insured employees injured in the incidents. It urges insured persons and employers to trust that the office will fully protect and support insured persons to receive maximum benefits as intended by the Social Security Act.
