
Forensic police are urgently gathering evidence after a suspect stormed Patong Prathan Khiriwat School, resulting in the director's death and injuries to students. The suspect has not yet been charged and is currently being treated in the ICU.
On 12 Feb 2026 GMT+7, an update on the case involving a suspect with a history of psychiatric treatment related to substance abuse who entered Patong Prathan Khiriwat School in Patong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, armed with a gun, taking students hostage. Three people were injured: the school director and a 15-year-old female student were shot, and another female student was injured after jumping from a building to escape. Authorities controlled the situation and took the suspect and all injured to the hospital for treatment.
At around 02:00, Ms. Sasiphat Sinsomros, the injured school director who had been sent to Hat Yai Hospital, passed away due to severe internal injuries and heavy blood loss. Arrangements will be madeto transfer the bodyfor a funeral ceremony at Yung Thong Temple, Tha Chang Subdistrict, Bang Klam District, Songkhla Province.
Meanwhile, the female student shot in the abdomen is still receiving close medical care at Songklanagarind Hospital after surgery. The other female student who jumped from the second floor and injured her ankle is now reported to be safe.
The suspect, who was injured by a gunshot wound to the ear, remains in the ICU at Hat Yai Hospital and is now in stable condition. Investigators have not yet filed charges as they are waiting for the suspect to recover before conducting questioning and pressing charges. Hat Yai police are maintaining a 24-hour guard over the suspect.
At Patong Prathan Khiriwat School in Patong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla, the school has been closed for two days following the incident. Earlier this morning, forensic police from Center 9 entered the school to clear the area and collect physical and forensic evidence to support the case.
