In the incident, a gunman entered Patong Prathan Khiriwat School in Patong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, shooting and injuring people inside the school and taking children hostage. Authorities later controlled the situation and arrested the assailant, identified as an 18-year-old local youth with a history of psychiatric treatment due to substance abuse, who was discharged from hospital in December 2025.

The Ministry of Public Health later reported three injured victims from this incident: two female students and Ms. Sasiphat Sinsomros, director of Patong Prathan Khiriwat School, who was shot in the left chest and critically wounded. Doctors performed surgery and closely monitored her condition before she later died due to severe blood loss.
