In this incident, there was one fatality: Mrs. Sasipatch Sinsomros, the director of Phatong Prathan Kirivat School, who was shot in the left chest and seriously wounded. Doctors performed surgery and closely monitored her condition before she later died due to severe blood loss. Two other people injured were students of the school.
In follow-up, the news team visited a small hut in a rubber plantation, which is the residence of the perpetrator who lives there with his father and two younger sisters. Behind the house, there were burn marks.
The perpetrator's father explained that these were the remains of where his son had burned a mattress and agricultural tools during a period of delirium before he called the police, which led to his sonusing a knife to fight the police, then snatching a police gun and escaping. Later, they learned that the son had attacked the school where his daughters study in grades 7 and 8.
The son has been treated for psychiatric illness for several years, but the father admitted he was inconsistent with his medication and sometimes may have used drugs when going out with friends, which might have triggered a relapse.
Regarding the issue that the younger daughter, a grade 8 student, was reprimanded by a teacher for behavior at school and had her parents called in nearly a year ago, the father believes his son may have dwelled on this during his delirium. At that time, the son was holding his own phone when his daughter called to ask for a pickup from school. Seeing his sister's number flash on the phone might have reminded him of the past when she was reprimanded, leading him to decide to attack the school.
Furthermore, the perpetrator's father expressed a trembling-voiced apology to the family of Director Sasipatch, as well as to the teachers and parents of all the students affected by yesterday's incident. He stated that from now on, he wishes for his son to undergo legal proceedings.
