
Assailants planted a bomb targeting a police vehicle transporting suspects from Yaha Police Station. Fortunately, the bomb missed its target, but one local motorcyclist was startled and fell, sustaining injuries in Yala.
On 27 February 2026 at 15:10, the Yala Provincial Police Emergency Call Center 191 received a report from a Village Security Patrol (Chor Ror Bor) of a bomb explosion near a curve at Ban Hua Khao on Highway 4065 (Ban Niang–Yaha route). Upon notification, Police Major General Kong-at Suwankham, Commander of Yala Provincial Police, ordered Police Colonel Piyaphat Thongpanlertkul, Deputy Commander of Yala Provincial Police, together with Police Colonel Pornchai Kuameng, Superintendent of the Provincial Police's Special Operations Unit and Commander of Yala Police Task Force 91, Police Colonel Khosit Benjakul, Superintendent of Lam Mai Police Station, Wimuti Anukmanee, District Chief of Mueang Yala, and a combined force of military, police, administrative officials, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel led by Sornchai, and forensic officers from Forensic Science Center 10 to promptly inspect the scene.
The explosion site was at a curve on Highway 4065 (Ban Niang–Yaha route). Authorities found a large bomb crater with scattered gravel across the road surface. Nearby, a motorcycle lay overturned at the scene. One injured person, a female instructor aged approximately 30–35, sustained leg injuries. Rescue teams from Maetubtim Yala and Yala Subdistrict Administrative Organization arrived promptly to provide aid and transported her to Yala Regional Hospital.
Police Colonel Khosit Benjakul, Superintendent of Lam Mai Police Station, revealed that the explosion was aimed at the police suspect transport vehicle from Yaha Police Station as it passed by en route back to Yaha. Fortunately, the bomb missed its target and no one in the vehicle was injured. One local motorcyclist was startled and fell, sustaining injuries. The injured individual was taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The bomb planted by the assailants is currently undergoing detailed examination by the EOD team to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety. Authorities have temporarily closed the affected road section to prevent secondary incidents and to allow safe operations by officials. Residents are advised to avoid the Ban Hua Khao–Ban Niang curve area until clearance is announced.
