Krabi Fishermen Halt Fishing as Green Diesel Prices Surge to 35 Baht per Liter, Struggling with Costs

In Krabi Province, over 10 fishing boats have docked and temporarily halted fishing operations after the price of green diesel used for fishing surged by nearly 5 baht per liter. Boat owners say they cannot bear the increased costs and call on the government to fix prices as it does with onshore diesel.

On 15 March 2026, reporters from Krabi Province reported that on 14 March, more than 10 commercial fishing boats in Mueang Krabi District had to temporarily stop fishing because they could no longer bear the rising cost of green diesel (fuel for fishing boats). The price increased by 4.50 baht per liter, from 30.50 baht to 35 baht per liter. At the same time, the amount of fish caught has decreased, making the operation unprofitable. As a result, the boats remained docked at the fishery pier in Sai Thai Subdistrict, Mueang Krabi District.

Captain Tawee Khanantai of the fishing boat “W. Chok Kamonthip” revealed that the green diesel price increased four days ago, causing operating costs to rise significantly. Although the catch quantity was low, they could not raise fish prices because there is no set market price. If prices were raised, buyers would refuse to purchase, forcing them to bear losses.

If the green diesel price rises above 35 baht per liter, fishing operations may have to be temporarily suspended. They are urging the government to fix green diesel prices as it does with onshore diesel to reduce the impact on commercial fishing operators.
