Insurgents planted a bomb targeting soldiers on a dirt mound in a roadside forest park in Narathiwat Province, injuring one member of the military tactical unit.
At 17:00 on 16 June 2026, insurgents detonated a bomb targeting personnel from the Tactical Operations Unit of Border Defense Company 2 at a dirt mound in the roadside forest park near the boundary of Ban Maifad Village, Moo 8, and Ban Tooror Village, Moo 1, Kayu Klak Subdistrict, Waeng District, Narathiwat Province. One soldier, Private Naraphong Noosanguan, 22, was injured with chest tightness and was taken by comrades to Waeng Hospital for treatment.
Subsequently, security officials inspected the scene and initially found that military personnel had been camping in the area with tents. They cordoned off the site to allow relevant agencies to conduct a detailed investigation and collect forensic evidence on 17 June 2026 to aid in identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators.
Authorities suspect the attackers are the same group responsible for a previous bombing of a military ranger pickup truck on 11 May 2026 along Highway 4057, the Su-ngai Kolok–Waeng route, near Ban Maifad Village, Moo 8, Kayu Klak Subdistrict, Waeng District, Narathiwat Province.
