Yala Erupts: Attackers Plant Bomb and Ambush Border Patrol Police Protecting Teachers, 6 Injured

Attackers planted a bomb and ambushed a Border Patrol Police unit assigned to protect teachers, injuring six officers in Than To District, Yala Province. Authorities quickly coordinated a helicopter to transport the seriously injured to Yala Hospital.


At 08:10 on 19 June 2026, the Yala Provincial Police Radio Center received reports of a bombing targeting the 442 Special Task Force of the Border Patrol Police (Forest Patrol unit) near the boundary between Village No. 3 Ban Sakai and Village No. 4 Ban Bulosaninya, Ban Hra Subdistrict, Than To District, Yala. The ambush wounded six officers, who were taken to Than To Hospital as follows:

1. Police Senior Sergeant Major Kittisak Saksang suffered shrapnel wounds to his face, was bleeding but conscious, alert, and able to walk.
2. Police Senior Sergeant Major Praphat Wongruaydee experienced chest tightness, was unable to move but remained conscious.
3. Police Senior Sergeant Major Narongsak Chotipan reported chest tightness.
4. Police Senior Sergeant Major Narathip Nilsuwan experienced chest tightness.
5. Police Senior Sergeant Major Saksachai Kaewnun (unit leader) also reported chest tightness.
6. Police Senior Sergeant Major Wikam Lhalei experienced chest tightness.

Two officers were seriously injured: Police Senior Sergeant Majors Kittisak Saksang and Praphat Wongruaydee. Initial coordination was made with a helicopter from the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command to urgently transfer the wounded to Yala Hospital.

Police Major General Kong-at Suwankham, Commander of Yala Provincial Police, ordered security forces from all three agencies, the bomb disposal unit, and the Forensic Science Center 10 to intensify area inspections, fearing the attackers might have set a secondary ambush. He also ordered the area to be sealed off, barring unauthorized personnel, and urged rapid pursuit of the attackers' escape routes.
