Details of black-clad assailants attacking and throwing pipe bombs at Bukeh Sami checkpoint revealed.

According to the case where attackers assaulted Bukeh Sami checkpoint in Ra-ngae district, Narathiwat, throwing pipe bombs and firing at officers, resulting in immediate deaths of five rangers from the 4509th Ranger Company and injuries to two innocent civilians at about 18:45 on 22 July 2026 before fleeing, as previously reported (see story: Attackers storm and bomb checkpoint in Narathiwat, five rangers killed).

The shocking and brazen incident occurred in Ra-ngae district, Narathiwat, where six attackers dressed in black with black brimmed hats launched an assault on Bukeh Sami checkpoint located in Ton Yong Mas municipality, Ra-ngae district, Narathiwat province, an area under responsibility of the 4509th Ranger Company.

Surveillance footage at the scene shows the terrifying moment the assailants executed a well-planned operation: a red Honda Wave 110 motorcycle acted as the lead vehicle, followed by a black Nissan 4-door pickup truck carrying six black-clad attackers wearing brimmed hats who fired guns and threw pipe bombs at the checkpoint, concluding with a white Honda Wave motorcycle serving as a rear escort.

The vehicles and assailant characteristics are as follows:

  • Vehicle 2 (Operational): Black Nissan 4-door pickup truck
  • Vehicle 3 (Escort): White Honda Wave motorcycle

2. Attire details

  • Six assailants were seated at the rear of the pickup truck.
  • They wore black outfits and black brimmed hats.

Names of five fallen rangers and civilians injured by stray bullets.

The rapid and violent attack resulted in five rangers sacrificing their lives in the line of duty, namely:

1. Sergeant Major Theerayut Somakerd, age 43

2. Ranger Volunteer Wimon Dabthong, age 43

3. Ranger Volunteer Natisit Kaewsena, age 34

4. Ranger Volunteer Salahuding Pi, age 34

5. Ranger Volunteer Sakiriya Jena, age 23

Additionally, the shooting and bombing injured two nearby civilians: a 10-year-old boy and Ms. Susana Gotanyong, age 34. Authorities and locals urgently transported them to the hospital.

After the attack, the assailants fled via pickup truck and motorcycles along route 4055 from Ton Yong Mas subdistrict toward Dusongyo subdistrict in Ra-ngae district. Security forces immediately sealed the crime scene, dispatching forensic teams and military-police personnel to collect bomb fragments and bullet casings for DNA evidence to identify and prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law.

Security elevated to highest level; manhunt intensifies.

Meanwhile, local security agencies have ordered the highest level of security measures, instructing all checkpoints and patrol units to maintain strict 24-hour vigilance to prevent further attacks and reassure the local population.
