A mother weeps after losing her 24-year-old son, a victim of a drunk Myanmar driver whose blood alcohol level was measured at 239 mg%. Meanwhile, the vehicle owner's employer has given initial compensation of 100,000 baht.
On the evening of 25 July 2026, a pickup truck collided with several motorcycles on the road leading to Ton Sai Waterfall, Moo 1, Thepkrasattri Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket Province, injuring several people. Officials found that the driver of the black Suzuki pickup truck with Phuket license plates was Aung Min Oo, 42, a Myanmar national, who was intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 239 mg%. He was taken into custody for legal proceedings.
Later, Thalang Hospital reported that two of the injured, Thanawit Inkaew, 24, and Mariam Longnawa, 45, died from their injuries, bringing the total fatalities to two, with three others injured. Thalang Police are collecting evidence to charge the pickup truck driver with drunk driving causing death.
In the latest update on 26 July 2026, a Myanmar friend of Aung Min Oo visited him. It was confirmed that the pickup truck involved belongs to a Thai employer and holds third-class insurance. The employer has initially provided 100,000 baht compensation to each deceased family to assist them.
Thanawit's body was brought by relatives to Thepkrasattri Temple (Ban Don Temple), Moo 4, Thepkrasattri Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket, for funeral rites, while Mariam Longnawa's relatives took her body back to Kuraburi District, Phangnga Province, for Islamic funeral ceremonies. Relatives and friends gathered to bid farewell amid grief.
Reporters visited Thepkrasattri Temple in Thepkrasattri Subdistrict, Thalang, where Thanawit’s funeral was held. Family, colleagues, close friends, and acquaintances came continuously to pay their respects after hearing of the sudden passing of the 24-year-old man, many still unable to accept the tragic event.
Jirawan Kongjaiman, 54, Thanawit’s mother, tearfully shared her shock upon hearing the news. She said she could not bear to watch the news or see images of the incident as they deeply wounded her heart. "Was my son hurt? Did he suffer a lot? But today, he can no longer answer me," she said.
The mother said her son had just started his working life with a bright future ahead. He was diligent, responsible, never caused trouble, and was loved by colleagues wherever he worked. He had previously worked at Laguna before leaving to find a more stable job. After her husband died, her son became both the family's support and encouragement, sending money monthly to help her.
"My son was a dutiful, good boy who never misbehaved or fought with anyone. Everyone loved him. I really cannot accept losing him like this. If possible, I want to urge everyone: don’t drive drunk, because when accidents happen, the ones who suffer are the families left to live with the pain forever," Jirawan said through tears.
Police confirmed they will expedite legal proceedings transparently and fairly to ensure justice for the deceased and those affected by this tragic incident.
