"Phuket Juvenile Court" has ordered the detention of a "12-year-old Myanmar girl" for 30 days over assaulting a female student at school.
On 10 Aug 2026 GMT+7, investigators from Cherngtalay Police Station formally charged a Myanmar girl, aged 12 years and 8 months, with assaulting a female student at a school in Phuket province, in the presence of the Phuket Provincial Prosecutor, a psychologist, and persons requested by the child to attend as per legal procedures.
On 11 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Cherngtalay Police investigators took the girl to the Phuket Juvenile and Family Court within 24 hours of the charges being filed, to allow the court to verify whether she falls under juvenile offender criteria and to confirm that the charges and treatment of the child comply with the law.
During the hearing, investigators explained the reasons, necessity, and evidence for consideration, stating that the child displayed behavior potentially seriously harmful to others, alongside other relevant factors including that both her father and mother had been laid off from work.
After consideration, the Phuket Juvenile and Family Court ordered the girl’s detention at the Phuket Juvenile Detention and Protection Center during the investigation for a period of 30 days.
If the investigation is not complete, prosecutors may request an extension of detention for up to 15 days at a time, not exceeding two extensions, according to legal procedures.
After the case concludes, relevant legal actions will be taken, including referring the case to the Immigration Office for further consideration and action.
However, since the accused is a child, the legal process and news reporting must consider the child’s best interests and rights, including avoiding disclosure of information that could identify the child.
