On 29 Oct 2023 GMT+7, reporters reported that continuous rain from last night through this morning caused flooding in many areas of Phuket, especially in Karon and Chalong subdistricts of Mueang Phuket district, potentially affecting travel for residents and road users.
In Karon subdistrict, flooding was found at Soi Khok Tonod in Kata area and in front of the Supercheap store, Karon branch. In Chalong subdistrict, flooding occurred in Village 9 near the traffic light intersection at Chok Thip Villa village, in front of Lotus store, Chalong branch, on West Chaofa Road, and near Wat Tai on East Chaofa Road.
Meanwhile, in Patong subdistrict, Kathu district, heavy rain continues but initially no flooding awaiting drainage has been reported. Residents are advised to closely monitor rain and traffic conditions, exercise caution when driving through flooded routes, and avoid high-water areas unless necessary.
However, on 28 Oct, continuous rain in Patong subdistrict caused landslides and falling rocks that blocked the road at Soi Na Nai 3, disrupting traffic. The situation remains severe at Soi Na Nai 8, where urgent assistance for residents is needed.
Lalita Maneesri, mayor of Patong Municipality, stated that all agencies have been ordered to assist residents and that evacuation has been announced for those in risk areas to shelters for their safety. Shuttle vehicles have been arranged at Soi Na Nai 3 and Soi Na Nai 8 to facilitate evacuation.
Additionally, Patong Municipality has prepared parking areas for both small and large vehicles so residents can park safely. The public is urged to leave risk zones promptly and strictly follow officials' instructions.
Regarding Soi Na Nai 8, the mayor added that the situation remains concerning. Authorities, volunteers, and forestry officers have been mobilized to assist residents and ensure safety.
Patong Municipality requests residents to avoid Soi Na Nai 3, which is closed due to landslides and rockfalls blocking traffic, as well as other landslide and flash flood risk areas. People should closely follow official announcements and prioritize their safety above all.
