Thairath Poll Invites Vote for the Right Candidate to Lead the New Pheu Thai Party

On 31 Oct 2025 GMT+7, the Pheu Thai Party will hold an extraordinary general meeting to elect a new party leader and executive committee.

This major reshuffle follows the resignation of the former party leader, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, amid reports of a significant "party overhaul". The new leader is expected to come from outside the Shinawatra family to redefine the party’s political role. This is not merely a leadership election but a decision on the direction of the ruling coalition and how it will respond to public expectations.

At the party MPs’ meeting on 28 Oct 2025 GMT+7, the atmosphere was intense. Ms. Paetongtarn attended and urged members to be open to nominations. Currently, 4 to 5 candidates are under consideration, none from the Shinawatra family.

The key qualifications sought by party MPs include strong economic knowledge and readiness to debate and immediately promote party policies. Notably, it was emphasized that "the party leader does not have to be the prime ministerial candidate," increasing attention on this election.

As political tensions rise, we invite you to share your view: who is the right person to lead the new Pheu Thai Party, what should the party’s new political direction look like, and what responsibilities should it undertake?
