Poll Shows Southern Voters Ready to Support Democrat Party Abhisit Ranks Second as Preferred Prime Minister

NIDA Poll revealed that in the South, the Democrat Party is the top choice for voters, while Abhisit ranks second in support for prime ministership.


On 30 November 2025 GMT+7, the NIDA Poll Center of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) released results of a survey titled "Political Trends in the South." The survey was conducted from 18 to 24 November 2025 GMT+7 among citizens aged 18 and above eligible to vote in the South, covering 14 provinces: Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Krabi, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket, Ranong, Satun, Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala. The sample of 2,000 respondents represented all education levels, occupations, and income brackets. Data was collected via telephone interviews, with a margin of error not exceeding 0.05 at a 97.0% confidence level.

When asked which individual southern voters support as prime minister today, 32.25% said they have not yet found a suitable candidate, ranking first. Second was Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva (Democrat Party) with 25.65%. Third was Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul (Bhumjaithai Party) at 15.40%. Fourth was Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut (Prachachon Party) at 12.85%. Fifth was General Prayut Chan-o-cha at 2.50%. Sixth was General Rangsi Kitiyananthap at 2.45% (Economic Party). Seventh was Mr. Peeraphan Saleerutwipak (United Thai Nation Party) at 2.05%. Eighth was Mr. Wan Muhamad Noor Matha (Prachachat Party) at 1.85%. Ninth was a tie at 1.25% each for Mr. Julaphan Amornwiwat (Pheu Thai Party) and Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan (Thai Sang Thai Party). Others at 2.50% included General Prawit Wongsuwan (Palang Pracharath Party), Dr. Suchatvee Suwansawat (Thai Khao Mai Party), Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong (Prachachat Party), Mrs. Suphajee Suthammanphun, Mr. Chuan Leekpai (Democrat Party), Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat (Kla Party), Dr. Warong Dechkitvikrom (Thai Pakdee Party), Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa (Chart Thai Pattana Party), Ms. Kansinee Opasrangsarn (United Thai Nation Party), Police General Seripisut Temiyavet (Seri Ruam Thai Party), Captain Thammanat Prompao (Kla Party), and those who chose not to vote (Vote No).


When asked which political party southern voters support today, 28.60% chose the Democrat Party, ranking first. Second, 28.45% said they have not yet found a suitable party. Third was the Prachachon Party at 17.80%. Fourth was the Bhumjaithai Party at 11.65%. Fifth was the United Thai Nation Party at 3.90%. Sixth was the Pheu Thai Party at 2.45%. Seventh was the Prachachat Party at 1.95%. Eighth was the Economic Party at 1.65%. Ninth was the Palang Pracharath Party at 1.55%. Others at 1.65% included Thai Sang Thai Party, Kla Party, Thai Khao Mai Party, Chart Thai Pattana Party, Chart Pattana Party, Seri Ruam Thai Party, Thai Pakdee Party, and those who chose not to vote (Vote No). Finally, 0.35% did not answer or were not interested.
