Suchart to Personally Contest District 1, Plans Meeting with Sonthaya on 10 Prospective Chonburi MP Candidates

Suchart has arranged a meeting with Sonthaya to select 10 prospective MP candidates for Chonburi, expecting to conclude within 1-2 days. He wants to run in District 1 himself while the overall plan considers suitability. He stressed his desire for the Bhumjaithai Party to be united in Chonburi and said there is no sign of parliament dissolution yet.

At 10:00 a.m. on 2 Dec 2025 GMT+7. Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, a member of the Bhumjaithai Party, said at the Government House regarding candidate selection in Chonburi Province that within 1-2 days he will meet with Mr. Sonthaya Kunplome, a leader of the Palang Chon group, to discuss the entire province and determine who is best suited for each area. Having come from the same place for many decades but being in different parties, they need to jointly discuss realistically who is more skilled in each area. On this point, he is confident.

When asked whether they would follow the previously mentioned preferred zones, Mr. Suchart said that he could not say exactly because he has worked politically with Mr. Sonthaya for a long time. Although in competing parties, if now sharing the same party intention, they will divide zones according to each person's expertise. They cannot lie about their strengths as fellow Chonburi natives who know well which areas the people love and respect more.

Regarding the outlook for District 1, Mr. Suchart replied, he has served as MP for District 1 twice, in 2011 and 2019, and has expressed his intention to run in District 1 again. In the 2023 election, he ran as a party-list MP because at that time, under former Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, he was part of the United Thai Nation Party. However, for the upcoming election, he expects to run in a constituency he is familiar with. The last time was rushed due to party affiliation changes. Now, having joined the Bhumjaithai Party, a large party with a good system and extensive networks, he doesn't need to cover other provinces because he trusts his friends' capabilities. This will be his third or fourth run, so he is more experienced and can rely on capable colleagues.

Regarding rumors that Mr. Sonthaya would not relinquish District 1, Mr. Suchart stated, “No, no. Brother Pae (Sonthaya) has already talked with me. We look at suitability. Since I have been a representative before, it makes sense. Brother Pae is concerned that whoever takes over might not be able to compete well. We focus more on the outcome; we want Bhumjaithai in Chonburi to be united and gain the most seats.” He added that within 1-2 days, discussions for all 10 Chonburi constituencies should conclude, and a meeting with Mr. Sonthaya is scheduled.

When asked if the division would be roughly half and half, Mr. Suchart said it probably wouldn't be that exact but that they will openly discuss numbers and suitability. Regarding any signs of parliament dissolution, Mr. Suchart said there are none yet and personally thinks opposition parties would be better sources to ask. He added that he is working daily as usual.
