“Tawee - Theerarat” lead the Prachachat and Phuea Thai parties’ teams to kick off cleanup activities to restore Hat Yai, setting an 8-day plan prioritizing aid to homes without electricity and water supply first.
On 3 Dec 2025, a reporter in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, reported that Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, leader of the Prachachat Party and party-list MP, along with a delegation from the Phuea Thai Party led by Ms. Theerarat Samretwanit, deputy leader of Phuea Thai and Bangkok’s 18th district MP, Mr. Korkaeo Pikultong, deputy leader and party-list MP, and Dr. Sriyada Parimaphan, party registrar and party-list MP, joined forces in Hat Yai District, Songkhla, to kick off cleanup and community restoration activities following the flooding situation. Though floodwaters have receded, economic damages remain at no less than 20-30 billion baht, severely impacting the livelihoods of more than 70,331 households.
Pol. Col. Tawee said the visit aims to swiftly restore good living conditions in the community by mobilizing over 300 volunteers along with essential equipment including more than 100 high-pressure water jets, over 10 garbage trucks, and 10 water trucks. The comprehensive assistance focuses on three areas simultaneously: (1) cleaning damaged homes, (2) removing waste and debris from the area, and (3) washing and cleaning roads covered with mud and sewage.
After attending a briefing on the situation and activity plans, the team proceeded to the community near Kim Yong Market to begin cleanup and community restoration operations. They also distributed more than 500 survival kits to affected residents to provide initial relief.
Prioritizing Assistance
“Today, we come as a group of volunteers—around 250-300 people—who have willingly joined together, mostly donating both their labor and spirit to help with restoration. Our main mission is to clean roads and damaged homes. We have prioritized assistance starting with those most in need: groups without both water supply and electricity, followed by those who have electricity but lack water. Our team will seek permission from homeowners before bringing in equipment to wash and clean their homes,” he said.
Setting an 8-Day Framework to Help Hat Yai
Pol. Col. Tawee added that the working period is set for about 8 days, from 3 to 10 December. The key goal is to restore happiness to the people by helping clean homes, remove debris, and wash streets so that the city can return to normal as before the floods as quickly as possible. This effort includes not only teams from Bangkok but also cooperation from Narathiwat’s mayor (Mr. Banjerd), who has mobilized water trucks, equipment, and personnel to support the volunteer force, combining efforts for the people of Hat Yai.
Concern Over Hidden Threat from Dry Mud Dust
The Prachachat Party leader also expressed concern about the hazards following the water’s retreat, especially decaying waste and dust. In particular, dust from dry mud is a silent threat as dangerous as the flood itself and may cause PM 2.5 dust levels to rise. Therefore, he urged citizens to wear face masks to protect against dust inhalation and to take respiratory health precautions similar to those used during COVID-19 for everyone’s safety.
Expected to Help No Less Than 2,000 Households
The reporter also noted that throughout the continuous cleanup mission, Pol. Col. Tawee’s team has visited and talked with homeowners and shared lunch with affected residents to boost morale. This cleanup and community restoration activity will continue from 3 to 10 December 2025, with expectations to assist in restoring no less than 1,000 to 2,000 households.
