Minister Trinuch affirmed that Daikin has not laid off employees but has imposed a work stoppage until a resolution is reached with the labor union. She also ordered the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare to accelerate negotiations to find a solution.
On 5 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Minister Trinuch Thianthong of the Ministry of Labor spoke about Daikin Industries (Thailand) Ltd.'s announcement of a "work stoppage," stating the situation is not a "layoff" but a notification of a "work stoppage" due to unsuccessful dispute negotiations between the employer and the labor union.
The Minister revealed that 11 negotiation rounds have taken place without resolution. The company therefore declared a labor dispute to the labor dispute conciliator. The work stoppage will remain until negotiations conclude. She has directed Rear Admiral Saroj Komkai, Director-General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, to act as mediator and urgently seek a resolution within the framework of existing labor laws.
Rear Admiral Saroj said he has received the directive and will promptly join the 12th mediation meeting on 8 Dec 2025 GMT+7. He explained that the work stoppage is a lawful process under the Labor Relations Act when negotiations fail to reach an agreement. During this period, the employer will not pay wages, which differs from employee layoffs.
