The government has prepared the New Year’s gift “H.N.Y 2026 – Happiness of All, Network of Care, and Year of Safety,” with the Ministry of Transport delivering happiness and facilitating public travel convenience and safety.
On 9 December 2025, Mr. Siripong Angkasunklit, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Cabinet acknowledged the 2026 New Year’s gift project for the public as proposed by the Ministry of Transport.
The project aims to offer a New Year’s gift to the public to bring happiness, facilitate safe travel, and stimulate the domestic economy and tourism, as has been done in previous years.
Under the concept “H.N.Y 2026 – Happiness of All, Network of Care, and Year of Safety,” it includes H – Happiness of All: joyful travel on every route for all Thais; N – Network of Care: attentive, caring support like fellow travelers; and Y – Year of Safety: a year of safety on roads and all journeys.
“H – Happiness of All” means joyful travel on every route for Thais, such as:
- The Marine Department organizes a boat tour to visit nine temples on Friday, 26 December 2025, to bring happiness, smiles, and blessings for the New Year 2026 to 240 Thai citizens.
- The Land Transport Department extends the deadline for annual vehicle tax payments for the public and transport operators who use vehicles during the New Year festival and cannot pay during office hours, allowing payment before and after office hours, among other accommodations.
- The Department of Highways waives toll fees on motorways for seven days from 30 December 2025 at 00:01 until 5 January 2026 at 00:00, covering:
Motorway No. 7 from Bangkok to Ban Chang, and Motorway No. 9, the Bangkok Outer Ring Road (Kanchanaphisek Road) sections Bang Pa-in to Bang Phli, and Phra Pradaeng to Bang Khae via Phra Pradaeng to Bang Khun Thian interchange.
- The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand extends operating hours for four metro lines on New Year's Eve into New Year’s Day 2026, from 6:00 on 31 December 2025 to 2:00 on 1 January 2026, including: 1) Blue Line (Chalerm Ratchamongkhon), 2) Purple Line (Chalong Ratchatham), 3) Yellow Line (Nakhara Phiphat), and 4) Pink Line projects.
“N – Network of Care” means systematic and comprehensive attentive care, such as:
- The Land Transport Department, together with the Office of the Vocational Education Commission, sets up 150 “Vocational Volunteer Centers to Assist the Public” nationwide during the 2026 New Year festival from 27 December 2025 to 3 January 2026 along major and secondary roads with heavy traffic. Services include basic vehicle condition checks for safety, emergency assistance, towing services (in some areas), massage, cold towels, drinking water, travel and tourist information, and lists of open repair shops—all free of charge.
- The Department of Highways facilitates safety and convenience for road users during the 2026 New Year holiday on highways.
- The Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning offers the Web and Mobile Application “Namtang” to help the public plan, decide, and select routes and public transport by road, rail, and water within Bangkok and surrounding areas. It provides accurate, suitable, and fast information covering 1,422 routes and 7,717 service points, supporting Windows, iOS, and Android systems.
“Y – Year of Safety” represents a year of safety on roads and all travel, such as:
- The Land Transport Department inspects the readiness of public buses and drivers on main routes entering and leaving Bangkok from 15 December 2025 to 15 January 2026 at the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak).
- The Department of Rural Roads ensures prevention and safety on rural roads nationwide during the 2026 New Year festival from 29 December 2025 to 5 January 2026.
- The Expressway Authority of Thailand sets up service units and deploys staff to manage traffic and strictly enforce regulations against traffic violations on expressways, such as unsecured or uncovered cargo trucks and passengers riding in pickup truck beds, at toll plazas.
