Government Rushes to Aid Livestock Evacuation Amid Thai-Cambodian Border Clashes Affecting Over 5 Million Animals

The government is urgently assisting farmers in evacuating livestock due to clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border in six provinces, where over five million animals have been affected. Farmers are encouraged to request help via the DLD 4.0 application, available 24 hours a day.

On 11 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border has severely impacted residents and livestock in border areas. The government, through the Department of Livestock Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, is swiftly aiding livestock farmers and caring for affected animals across six provinces: Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, Trat, and Sa Kaeo. This includes 20 districts, 196 subdistricts, and 1,704 villages. A preliminary survey as of 9 Dec 2025 GMT+7 found a total of 5,599,993 animals affected, consisting of 432,585 cattle, 90,672 buffaloes, 122,716 pigs, 23,959 goats and sheep, over 4.7 million poultry, 148,647 dogs, and 65,139 cats. Reports indicate 432 animals have died or gone missing in Ubon Ratchathani and Surin, mainly poultry, cattle, and buffaloes.

In urgent relief efforts, the Department of Livestock Development has distributed 11,000 kilograms of animal feed, 8,000 kilograms of dog and cat food, and 1,000 kilograms of cattle feed. They have also provided cages for dogs and cats, animal health promotion kits including minerals, antibiotics, and vitamins, and evacuated 30 animals from high-risk zones. Mobile veterinary teams are providing ongoing care. Additionally, hay bales have been supported by the Military Animal Department, with plans to deliver an extra 111,000 kilograms of animal feed for sustained assistance. The Department holds daily meetings of the special operations command committee to monitor the situation and provide swift support during the crisis and in the post-incident phase efficiently.
