Prime Minister Anutin has submitted the royal decree dissolving parliament and declared, "I return power to the people."
Reporters stated that this evening, 11 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul respectfully submitted to His Majesty the royal decree dissolving the House of Representatives to allow for a general election of new members.
Reporters added that the submission of the royal decree dissolving the House of Representatives occurred after the majority of parliament members resolved that amendments to Constitution Section 256/28 require approval from at least one-third of the Senate members. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party and opposition leader, whose party supports Anutin as prime minister, called on Anutin to dissolve the House following the majority vote from Bhumjaithai Party MPs.
Anutin posted on Facebook, "I return power to the people."
Further reports indicated that Pradorn Prissanantakul, MP for Ang Thong from Bhumjaithai Party, explained to People's Party representatives that if the Senate's powers were revoked as the People's Party demands in the third reading, the Senate would reject the entire constitutional amendment bill. This would cause the ongoing amendment process to fail. He urged retaining the Senate's powers to allow the process to continue. However, the People's Party representatives refused and warned that if the vote on Section 256/28 failed, they would immediately file a no-confidence motion against the entire government. Consequently, Anutin had to decide to dissolve the House, as the government is a minority one supported by the People's Party. Without their support, the government must end its term.
"We have fully negotiated with the Senate, but we cannot order them to revoke their own powers. We also negotiated with the People's Party that if Senate powers were removed, the Senate would reject the third reading, halting the constitutional drafting process. To take responsibility for failing to meet the People's Party's demands, the House must be dissolved, as agreed upon in the government formation deal to dissolve parliament. Today, Anutin has fulfilled this obligation," said a Bhumjaithai executive.
