Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was active on Facebook late at night, leaving a brief comment "Exactly" under a post by the People's Party after they issued a statement urging the Bhumjaithai government to dissolve parliament.
On 12 Dec 2025 at 00:20 GMT+7, reporters reported that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul commented under the People's Party's post, writing "Exactly."
This came after the People's Party issued a statement addressed to the Bhumjaithai government concerning the referendum on drafting a new constitution and the dissolution of parliament, stating that
Following today's second reading vote on the constitutional amendment, a key issue is the differing opinions among parliament members, particularly the requirement of one-third of senators' votes to approve the new constitution draft before it goes to a public referendum. This effectively grants senators control over the new constitution's content from start to finish.
In the committee stage, Bhumjaithai agreed with the majority committee recommendation to require a simple majority of parliament to pass the new constitution draft, without needing one-third of senators' votes. However, today they voted to retain senators' authority, which means the ongoing constitutional amendment cannot truly lead to the new constitution that the people desire.
Previously, the People's Party had tried to mediate and compromise with various parties to achieve the goal of paving the way for a new constitution drafted by the people under current political constraints.
But today's amendment granting senators control over the substance of the new constitution draft is a critical obstacle to the people's ability to draft a new constitution in the future, which is unacceptable.
Therefore, the People's Party calls on the Prime Minister to dissolve parliament to take responsibility to the people. The Bhumjaithai Party should complete its final constitutional mission by having the caretaker government pass a cabinet resolution by Tuesday, 16 Dec 2025, to set the referendum date for Question 1 on the new constitution draft as 8 Feb 2026.
See you at the polling stations.
