Pheu Thai Declares Readiness for Election, Criticizes Government for Avoiding Scrutiny and Calls MOA Ineffective

The Pheu Thai Party announced its readiness for the election following the government's dissolution of parliament, labeling it an evasion of scrutiny and a reflection of failed governance. They affirmed that the MOA is ineffective and has opened a pathway for the Bhumjaithai Party to exploit power and their network for personal gain.

At 9:00 a.m. on 12 Dec 2025 GMT+7 at the Pheu Thai Party headquarters, led by party leader Mr. Julaphan Amornwiwat, party secretary Mr. Prasert Chantraruangthong, and spokesperson Mr. Sukit Srichomkwan, the party issued a statement following the government's announcement to dissolve parliament, confirming their full preparedness for the upcoming election to " bring hope and better opportunities back to the people."

They pointed out that the dissolution of parliament is an attempt to avoid scrutiny.

Mr. Julaphan read the Pheu Thai Party's statement, saying that this dissolution of parliament by the government is "an avoidance of scrutiny and accountability" for the damage caused by flawed and inefficient governance, including unresolved border conflicts, the transfer of civil servants and budget allocations favoring certain groups, the country's declining credibility internationally, public suffering from floods causing deaths and property losses, distortion of the justice system, and lack of transparency in important cases.

They criticized the government's constitutional amendment efforts as insincere.

Pheu Thai believes the government never sincerely intended to amend the constitution because the MOA agreement was not based on democratic principles. From the start, Pheu Thai’s efforts to create a constitution-drafting process rooted in the people's will were immediately dismissed. The country gains no benefit from this process; instead, it has opened a door for the Bhumjaithai Party to exploit power, resources, and state networks to seek benefits and consolidate more power.

They called on the coalition parties to take responsibility.

The Pheu Thai leader also revealed that previously the People’s Party had negotiated to delay Pheu Thai’s motion for a censure debate, assuring cooperation to scrutinize the government if constitutional amendments could not proceed. However, during the parliamentary session last night, the People’s Party called for the government to dissolve parliament, enabling the executive branch to avoid opposition scrutiny through this route. Pheu Thai therefore believes the MOA signatories must share responsibility for this failure. Although regretting the lost opportunity for the country due to political instability, Pheu Thai emphasized that the people must not lose hope. The party is fully prepared for the forthcoming election to address urgent issues and lay a new foundation for genuine national progress.

On 16 December, the party will launch its three prime ministerial candidates under the campaign "Revamping Thailand, Pheu Thai Can Do It," presenting policies focused on the economy, infrastructure, and quality of life, grounded in scientific thinking, factual data, and practical feasibility.
