Anutin Rebuts Trump: Stepping on Landmines Is Not an Accident Thailand Must Defend Its Land and People

Anutin responded to Trump after his post calling the soldiers stepping on landmines an accident, declaring it is not merely a roadside accident. Thailand must continue military operations until it feels there is no threat to its land and people.

On 13 December 2025, following Donald Trump, President of the United States, posted a message summarizing on the night of 12 December 2025 that after speaking by phone with Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, and Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, both sides agreed to a ceasefire and to return to the original peace agreement. He also stated, "The landmine incident causing many Thai soldiers to die and be injured was an accident. Nonetheless, Thailand responded strongly." Most recently, at 09:31 a.m. today, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, posted a message in English on social media clarifying the U.S. President’s statement that stepping on landmines was an accident. Summarized, it said, "It is definitely not just a roadside accident. Thailand will continue military operations until we feel there is no danger or threat to our land and people. I want to make clear that our actions this morning spoke for themselves."

However, last night, after discussions with Donald Trump at the Government House, Anutin stated, "He wants a ceasefire. I told him to tell our friends instead—don’t just say ceasefire. They must publicly announce that Cambodia will cease fire, withdraw troops, clear all planted explosives, and make it visible. Thailand has remained passive and never sought to take anything from them. But they must stop everything first."
