Government outlines criteria to assist impoverished elderly with home repairs, providing lump-sum payments up to 40,000 baht per house as part of ongoing support for vulnerable groups.
On 13 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the government continues comprehensive welfare support for vulnerable groups, aiming to improve their quality of life. In particular, housing is emphasized as a safe and restful space for all.
The government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), prioritizes improving the quality of life for vulnerable groups under the principle of "leaving no one behind." It is implementing a project to modify environments and facilities to suit elderly people, providing budget support for home repairs and improvements to ensure safety and suitability for their living conditions, based on the following criteria.
1) Must be at least 60 years old and hold Thai nationality.
2) Must be economically disadvantaged or have insufficient income to sustain living.
3) Must not receive sufficient assistance from government agencies or receive no assistance at all.
4) Must have insecure, unsuitable, or unsafe housing conditions that affect the elderly's living.
Ms. Airin noted that if the residence or land is not owned by the elderly or their heirs, the elderly must have lived there for at least one year and obtained consent from the property owner to modify the living environment.
Eligible elderly individuals can apply for support under the project to adapt living environments and facilities to be suitable and safe at the following locations.
1) In Bangkok: Submit applications to the Department of Older Persons, Bang Khae Elderly Social Welfare Development Center, or the respective Bangkok district office.
2) In provinces: Submit applications to the provincial Social Development and Human Security Office (SDHS), Elderly Social Welfare Development Center, Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Subdistrict Municipality, City Municipality, or Pattaya City Municipality.
Required documents for those eligible for home repair support under the project to adapt living environments and facilities for elderly safety and suitability include:
1) A copy of the elderly person's national identification card.
2) A copy of the elderly person's house registration document.
Additional document: A consent letter for home modifications (if the elderly person does not own the land, a consent letter from the property owner allowing environmental adjustments at the residence).
Ms. Airin stated that the project provides a lump sum payment of up to 40,000 baht per house to cover home repair and improvement costs for elderly persons, including management and compensation fees.
"This home environment adaptation project goes beyond simple repairs; it is about 'restoring hope' and 'creating opportunities' for elderly people to live with dignity and greater self-reliance, aligning with the government's policy to care for all citizens, especially vulnerable groups, ensuring access to essential basic services. This helps make Thai society more livable and sustainably united.
