Prime Minister Rejects Trumps Call for Ceasefire After Cambodia Fires BM-21 into Civilian Area

The Prime Minister countered Trump, declaring that firing will not stop this evening as Thailand must fully protect its sovereignty after Cambodia fired BM-21 rockets into civilian areas, causing severe injuries. He revealed that discussions did not involve returning to a peace agreement.

On 13 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, responded to US President Donald Trump's post on Truth Social following their phone discussion, in which Trump claimed that Thai soldiers stepping on landmines was accidental. Anutin stated he had already clarified on Facebook earlier that morning, confirming that their talks did not address any ceasefire agreement or return to a peace declaration.

The Prime Minister added that the conversation was merely a discussion and situation update, with no agreements made. He reaffirmed that regarding the conflict between the two countries, Thailand must fully protect its sovereignty and its people.

When asked if they should disregard what the US President said, the Prime Minister replied that he preferred not to comment as it could affect international relations. He emphasized respecting friendly nations and said there was no need to argue. Thailand will continue to act appropriately according to the situation.

When further asked if Trump's statement about a ceasefire this evening was a forced move, Anutin countered by asking whether there was really a ceasefire, noting that Cambodia had heavily fired this morning into areas that are not military targets but civilian communities, causing severe injuries. He questioned whether Thailand should listen to anyone else, warning that if they keep listening to various parties, there would be no time left to protect sovereignty and the people.

Regarding Trump's claim that stepping on landmines was accidental due to prior talks with Cambodia, Anutin said he did not know but pointed out how many Thai soldiers have lost limbs or lives. He emphasized this question should be asked from a Thai perspective, not an outsider’s.
