Foreign Ministry Emphasizes Need to Protect Sovereignty and Citizens, Expedites Aid for 600-700 Thais Stranded in Cambodia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the necessity to protect sovereignty and the safety of citizens, accelerating aid for 600 to 700 Thais stranded in Cambodia, and plans to provide further progress updates this afternoon.

At 10:00 a.m. on 13 Dec 2025 GMT+7, at the joint Thailand-Cambodia border situation press center of Channel 5, Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the conversation between Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul and U.S. President Donald Trump. She stated it was a valuable opportunity for Anutin to clarify Thailand's stance seeking peace, but emphasized that currently it is necessary to protect the nation's sovereignty and the safety of its people.

Furthermore, the two leaders assigned representatives from their foreign ministries to continue detailed discussions on the matter. At 3:00 p.m. today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Minister Sihasak Puangketkaew, will hold a press conference to provide further updates.

Ms. Maratee also provided an update on the progress of assisting Thais stranded in Cambodia. She explained that coordination with Cambodia took place this morning, but negotiations remain difficult given the current situation. It is expected that by 3:00 p.m. today, there will be progress in returning people from the border, and some have already begun traveling out through other checkpoints. Verification shows approximately 200 to 300 individuals have formally expressed a desire to return to Thailand.

Regarding assistance via commercial flights, the Deputy Spokesperson stated there is currently no immediate need to use commercial flights for repatriation, but preparations are underway should the situation require this measure. Based on available information, around 600 to 700 Thais are stranded, and if necessary, urgent assistance can be provided. .
