Thailand issued a statement clarifying the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, emphasizing that it continues to face attacks and denying any ceasefire as claimed by Cambodia. The statement also condemned violence against civilians and affirmed that Thailand's operations constitute legitimate self-defense under international law.
On 14 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Joint Press Center for the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation, led by Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, summarized the overall situation of clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces. Recently, Cambodia's Ministry of Interior announced a suspension of land travel for Thai and foreign nationals stranded in Cambodia, preventing them from leaving the country by land. Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen posted a suggestion urging the government to issue this order. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated this clearly violates international human rights law. Meanwhile, Thailand confirmed it follows the law and international standards, cooperating fully and providing assistance to foreigners in Thailand, including Cambodians. Although land travel is disrupted, the Consulate General facilitates those departing by air, issuing emergency travel documents. Currently, there are 1,000 daily seats available on flights from Siem Reap, and if flights are full, travelers can wait 1–2 days.
The Ministry of Defense spokesperson summarized that on the previous night from 22:00, Cambodia claimed a ceasefire but continued heavy weapon bombardments on Thailand. Thailand was thus compelled to defend itself and also detected numerous Cambodian drones repeatedly intruding into Trat border areas.
At 04:15, Cambodian forces launched continuous BM-21 rocket and artillery attacks into Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, forcing Thai forces to defend themselves.
At 05:15, Cambodia initiated attacks along the entire Thai sovereign border area.
However, clashes along the border have continued without any ceasefire as claimed by Cambodia.
The Royal Thai Navy has declared a curfew in five districts of Trat Province (Khlong Yai, Bo Rai, Laem Ngop, Khao Saming, and Mueang Trat) from 19:00 to 05:00 starting today (14 Dec 2025 GMT+7). Navy Assistant Spokesperson Commander Nara Khontom acknowledged the impact on civilians but noted that heavy disturbances from Cambodian forces in community areas necessitate the curfew for public safety. Civilians needing to leave their homes during curfew hours may request permission and explain to authorities, who will consider and facilitate such cases, prioritizing public safety. He urged trust in the military's actions aimed at sovereignty and citizen security.
Army Deputy Spokesperson Colonel Ritcha Suksuwan discussed military operations near the Khao Kanar archaeological site, where Cambodian military positions have encroached on Thai sovereign territory and a historic site, violating international norms by using heritage sites for military bases. Thai forces have reclaimed the area. The Army's two main objectives are: 1. to restore the encroached border and 2. to eliminate Cambodia's military capability, including personnel, equipment, and bases, as Cambodia's attacks pose threats to both military and civilians.
He estimated Cambodian losses since the start of operations up to now, covering both the 1st and 2nd Army Regions, including 51 military bases and positions, one BM-21 system, 10 tanks, nine armored vehicles, four anti-aircraft artillery systems, seven artillery guns, five anti-drone units, 68 drones, and three communication towers. Cambodian military casualties are estimated at 221.
The Ministry of Defense spokesperson reported injuries from Cambodia's BM-21 rocket attacks on community areas in Sisaket Province on 13 Dec 2025 GMT+7, resulting in six injuries. One injured person has been discharged, while five remain hospitalized but are out of danger. He denied reports of a civilian suffering severe injury with an arm amputated, clarifying it was only a broken bone. He condemned Cambodia for targeting civilians in these attacks.
Thailand affirmed it has not escalated the conflict further. Its actions constitute legitimate self-defense responding to security threats posed by Cambodia.
Regarding Thailand's continued military operations and refusal to accept a ceasefire negotiation, the Ministry of Defense spokesperson emphasized that military actions aim to restore peace and security for the people by diminishing the threat’s capabilities. Military operations will cease once peace returns. Thailand remains open to diplomatic talks but has been unable to negotiate as Cambodia is unwilling. The threat remains, and Cambodia must end hostility before further steps proceed.
On Thailand's appeals to the international community, the Ministry of Defense spokesperson requested understanding of the real security context and support for civilian protection, tension reduction, and respect for sovereignty. Thailand's goal is to promote lasting peace in the region and uphold its sovereignty.
The Army confirmed its commitment to restoring the encroached border and destroying Cambodia's military capabilities threatening Thailand. The latest reported Cambodian military deaths number at least 221.
