The military confirmed that military operations will conclude when peace and stability return. They clarified that the Cambodian BM 21 attack in Sisaket did not result in any civilians losing arms. Residents of Trat province must leave their homes during the curfew but can inform the authorities accordingly.
On 14 Dec 2025, at the joint Thai-Cambodian border situation briefing center, Rear Admiral Surasand Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, updated the situation, stating that since last night Cambodia has been intensively firing into Thai territory, especially using heavy weapons. Thai forces have been compelled to defend themselves in accordance with engagement rules and international law. Between 22:00 and 01:00, Cambodian forces attempted to infiltrate in large numbers, but Thai forces intercepted and inspected them, particularly in Trat province, where the Navy has been actively defending against sovereignty incursions.
He also stated that the Navy has imposed a curfew in Trat province from 19:00 to 05:00, starting today (14 Dec 2025), covering five districts: Khlong Yai, Bo Rai, Laem Ngop, Khao Saming, and Mueang district, excluding Koh Chang and Koh Kood islands.
Meanwhile, Navy Lieutenant Commander Nara Khuntohom, assistant spokesperson for the Navy, said that in the area assigned near Ban Charap, Mueang district, Trat province, the Navy has been attempting to reclaim territory long encroached upon and occupied. This morning, with air support from the Air Force conducting preparatory bombings, the Marine Command deployed infantry forces to retake the area. Despite heavy counterattacks from Cambodian forces, they succeeded in reestablishing control and temporarily raising the Thai national flag, symbolizing sovereignty over the territory. Although Cambodian counterattacks continue, Thai forces persist in neutralizing threats.
In addition to the Marines, other supporting units such as the Special Warfare Command, the Air and Coastal Defense Command, the Naval Ordnance Department, and other units have combined forces to implement strategies targeting the area.
Regarding the curfew announcement, it is acknowledged that it affects daily life, but due to intense disturbances from Cambodia, the curfew is necessary for public safety. Residents needing to leave their homes during curfew hours can request permission and explain to officials, who will consider the reasons and facilitate accordingly, prioritizing public safety.
The Ministry of Defense spokesperson also clarified that six people were injured in the Cambodian BM 21 attack in the Sisaket community area. One has been discharged, while five remain hospitalized—four at Sisaket Hospital and one at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital. He confirmed reports that no civilians lost arms were false; the injuries were limited to bone fractures.
He further confirmed that Thailand has not escalated the conflict. Thai actions are lawful self-defense responding to security threats posed by Cambodia, adhering to the principles of necessity and proportionality with a military focus.
When asked why Thailand continues military operations and has not accepted a ceasefire negotiation at this time, the Ministry of Defense spokesperson said that military actions aim to restore peace for the people and to block and confront threats. It is necessary to reduce the threat’s capability. Once peace and stability return, military operations will end. However, as long as Cambodian threats persist, Thai military action will continue. He reiterated that Thailand respects international law and urged the international community to understand the real security context and support measures to protect civilians, reduce tensions, and respect state sovereignty.
