The government is closely monitoring the clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border, ordering the closure of risky routes along the border and advising citizens to avoid traveling in conflict areas, emphasizing that public safety is paramount.
On 14 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Airin Panthurit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that in response to unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border, the government is closely tracking the situation and has directed all agencies to coordinate efforts to continuously assist affected residents. She emphasized that the highest priority is the safety of the public, the evacuation of vulnerable groups, and facilitating transportation around the shelter areas.
Ms. Airin added that the recent unrest over the past few days has impacted people in several border provinces. The government has assigned the Ministry of Transport to urgently support the missions of provincial authorities and security forces closely to ensure rapid and targeted assistance as follows.
In Buriram Province, clashes occurred in Ban Kruat District near Chong Sai Taku. This led to the evacuation of residents from Ban Kruat and Lahan Sai districts, along with the closure of Highway 224 (Ban Kruat–Lahan Sai–Phanom Dong Rak) for safety reasons. The Buriram Transport Office has provided 10 vehicles to evacuate vulnerable groups to medical facilities and shelters, deployed staff to assist at temporary shelters, and suspended transportation services in risky areas per provincial orders.
In Surin Province, unrest continues in several border areas. This has resulted in over 80,000 people seeking refuge in 145 temporary shelters. The Surin Transport Office has assigned personnel and vehicles to continuously support shelter operations, backing provincial and Land Transport Department efforts by integrating work with all sectors to ensure safety and boost morale among residents and officials in the area.
In Trat Province, the Department of Highways reported stray bullets landing on Highway 3 between the Trat River and Hat Lek. This caused temporary closures of some road sections. Security agencies evacuated residents from border areas into Trat town for safety. Meanwhile, the Trat Highway District relocated highway maintenance teams from risky zones—including Laem Glad, Chang Thun, and Dan Chumphon districts—to safer areas, following emergency response plans.
Adjustment of travel plans.
The government has instructed all agencies to closely monitor the situation and provide continuous updates. The transport sector has adjusted travel routes and usage in line with actual conditions, supporting evacuations and shelter operations in all affected provinces. Coordination continues with provinces, security forces, and relevant agencies to ensure the safety of residents and officials. The government stands firmly with border communities until the situation stabilizes.
