Thailand Reaffirms Sovereignty Protection Under Humanitarian Principles, Blames Hun Sen Regime for Conflict

On 15 December 2025 GMT+7, at the Joint Press Center for the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation, Rear Admiral Surasand Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, stated Thailand’s seven-point position: Thailand did not initiate the conflict but exercised its right to respond defensively after being attacked with heavy weapons first. The Ministry of Defense spokesperson also addressed Cambodia’s use of images showing officials spraying mosquito repellent, which Cambodia distorted as chemical attacks on troops. He called it clear fake news intended to create panic among the public and the international community. Additionally, the 2nd Army Region issued orders to control the export of fuel and military supplies at the permanent border crossing at Chong Mek, Ubon Ratchathani Province, to prevent these items from being used in Cambodia’s fighting. Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Richcha Suksuwanon, deputy spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army, revealed that Cambodia continues to attack civilian areas, especially in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, leading to a ban on civilian access there. Air Force spokesperson Lieutenant General Chakrit Thamvichai confirmed that all Thai targets struck were military. Navy Assistant Spokesperson Commander Nara Khuntohom explained the declaration restricting areas in the Gulf of Thailand applies only to Thai-flagged vessels in high-risk zones to prevent the transportation of military supplies. It is not a "closure" or "blockade" of the gulf, which would affect third countries.
