Teng Natthapong Leads Poll Far Ahead of Anutin with Abhisit Close Behind, Overtaking Julapan

A poll shows that Thai people want a “good and capable Prime Minister” with morality as the foremost requirement. "Teng" Natthapong leads with 23.14%, while "Abhisit" holds a Top 3 position, surpassing "Julapan".

On 15 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Professor Dr. Kriangsak Charoenwongsak, Chair of the Nation Building Institute and the Institute for Future Studies for Development, together with Ms. Jittima Boonwittaya, Director of IFD Poll and Survey, announced results from a public opinion survey titled “Defining the Prime Minister Who Will Move the Country Forward, Not in Circles.” The survey found that most Thais want a leader who is “good and capable,” with the top desired quality being “morality, honesty, transparency, and accountability.”

When asked to name suitable candidates for prime minister according to these criteria, 53.57% said “no one is suitable yet,” while 23.14% named Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, followed by Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul at 14.85%, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva at 11.23%, and Mr. Julapan Amornwiwat at 8.64%. Regarding the idea of an outsider prime minister, the public believes there are two main, nearly equal pathways to obtain a suitable leader: the current electoral system at 44.10%, and opening the door for an outsider prime minister at 40.90%.

Professor Dr. Kriangsak Charoenwongsak analyzed that the survey reflects widespread disillusionment with the current political system and suggested the situation might lead to appointing a prime minister under Article 5.
