Supachai Emphasizes No Change in U.S. Trade Tax Deal Awaits Cabinet Discussion After National Security Council Meeting

Supachai, Minister of Commerce, emphasized that the Trump-era trade tax deal has not progressed, affirming that the U.S. has not adjusted its conditions. She indicated they are waiting to discuss with the Cabinet after the National Security Council plans to tighten controls on oil and military supplies going to Cambodia.

At 09:20 on 16 Dec 2025 GMT+7. Mrs. Supachai Suthumpun, Minister of Commerce, gave an interview at the Government House regarding the progress of trade tax negotiations with the United States. She said, “There has been no change because ultimately, the U.S. State Department instructed the technical teams to continue discussions, and that remains the case. I emphasize that there have been no changes from the U.S. Trade Representative.”

When asked about the U.S. leader’s stance amid reports of tax measures pressuring Thailand to stop fighting Cambodia, Supachai said, “This matter has not come to me yet. I have seen the news but have explained things as they should be.” When asked if these negotiations would conclude before the new government takes office, she replied, “I do not know, as many factors are involved.”

Regarding the National Security Council’s (NSC) resolution to block exports of oil and military supplies to Cambodia and whether this would affect other exports, Supachai said, “I am not yet aware. I will listen to the Cabinet meeting first, then I will hold a press conference.”
