Three Pheu Thai Prime Ministerial Candidates Announce Plan to Revamp Thailand, Highlighting Pheu Thai Can Do It

Pheu Thai party introduced three prime ministerial candidates—Julapan, Yossanan, and Suriya—who presented the vision "Revamp Thailand, Pheu Thai Can Do It," addressing economic issues, infrastructure, and quality of life based on scientific principles.

On 16 December 2025 GMT+7, Pheu Thai held the event "Revamp Thailand, Pheu Thai Can Do It" to unveil three nominees for the party’s prime ministerial candidacy: Mr. Yossanan Wongsawat, Mr. Julapan Amornwiwat, and Mr. Suriya Jungroongruangkit. Former prime ministers, including Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra and Somchai Wongsawat, attended to hear the vision statements alongside party members and the public.

Mr. Yossanan expressed his vision for national development, affirming, "In Thailand, if we truly intend it, everything is possible." He recalled that Thailand overcame the severe 1997 economic crisis by believing that Thais "can do it."

As a Pheu Thai prime ministerial candidate, he pledged to lead Thailand out of its current crisis by aiming to elevate the country to high-income status as quickly as possible. This would be achieved by focusing on science, technology, and AI, implementing key strategies such as enhancing the efficiency of the existing economy (Old Economy) through modern technologies.

“Today, everyone from the Thai Rak Thai Party, from a party that faced injustice, has returned to our home, joined by the new generation. We are very confident that we can do it, starting now, this moment, to revamp Thailand. If Pheu Thai can do it, Thailand can certainly do it,” Mr. Yossanan stated.

Meanwhile, Mr. Julapan announced the party’s overhaul to undertake the mission of revamping Thailand, emphasizing policies to solve everyday economic issues. As an urgent measure, Pheu Thai plans to push the “Retirement Lottery” policy within the first three months of government, aiming to transform gambling into savings and provide financial security for the elderly alongside existing state welfare.

Additionally, the party is preparing to advance the “Debt Relief for Thais” program, which includes measures such as addressing informal debts with low-interest loans, allowing partial payments to settle non-performing loans (NPLs), a three-year debt moratorium for farmers, debt forgiveness for the elderly, and rewards for good debtors. They emphasized this is not a cash handout but a repair of the economic system’s foundation for sustainable growth.

Mr. Suriya highlighted his vision to revamp the country by improving transportation and creating opportunities for Thais. He aims to continue the “20-baht flat-fare electric train” and “Homes for Thais” programs, stressing that national development must begin by solving structural problems, especially in transportation and infrastructure, which are crucial for opening economic opportunities to the public.

As an urgent policy, he confirmed the continuation of the “20-baht flat-fare electric train” initiative, promising that if Pheu Thai leads the government formation, the public will be able to use it within three months. Simultaneously, feeder services will be developed under the policy “10-baht air-conditioned buses” to ensure quality transportation access for all citizens.

Meanwhile, the “Homes for Thais” policy will begin with four pilot projects focusing on housing in strategic locations near transportation networks and employment centers, with affordable payments. This approach aims not only to provide infrastructure for travel but also to help Thais establish stable homes, improve quality of life, and secure their futures.

In closing, he stated that Pheu Thai still possesses the energy, ideology, and a team that blends experience with the vigor of the new generation. The party volunteers to take on the prime ministerial candidacy to unite efforts to “revamp Thailand,” advancing concrete progress and improving the lives of all Thai people.
