
The government has revealed that more than 6.5 million livestock animals in seven border provinces have been impacted by clashes. It is moving forward with assistance efforts and hastening damage surveys to compensate farmers in accordance with official regulations.
On 17 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that due to the Thai-Cambodian border clashes, the government, through the Department of Livestock Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, is urgently assisting livestock farmers affected by the conflict. The response focuses on immediate actions and damage assessments for compensation under Ministry of Finance regulations, covering seven provinces: Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
Ms. Airin noted that according to the report from the Special Operations Center for Livestock Disaster Assistance as of 15 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the affected areas cover 28 districts with a total of 6,536,689 animals. There have been 171 cumulative animal deaths, mostly cattle and buffaloes. In urgent response, the Department of Livestock Development has relocated 809 animals from high-risk zones, assisted a total of 15,945 animals, and treated 949 injured or ill animals. Since the clashes began, animal feed support has been provided, distributing 101,800 kilograms of rough feed, 21,790 kilograms of concentrated feed, and 8,825 kilograms of dog and cat food. Additionally, animal survival kits and health promotion packages—including minerals, medicines, and vitamins—have been distributed, with ongoing aid efforts continuing.
Ms. Airin explained that compensation criteria are established by animal type, age group, and maximum assistance per case as follows.
1. Cattle aged 2 years and older: compensation up to 35,000 baht per head (maximum 5 heads per case).
2. Buffalo aged 2 years and older: compensation up to 39,000 baht per head (maximum 5 heads per case).
3. Pigs aged 30 days and older: compensation up to 3,000 baht per head (maximum 10 heads per case).
4. Goats/sheep aged 30 days and older: compensation up to 3,000 baht per head (maximum 10 heads per case).
5. Poultry such as chickens, ducks, quail, and ostriches: assistance varies by age and type, with a maximum of 300 to 1,000 heads per case.
6. For grass pastures, compensation is 1,980 baht per rai, up to 30 rai per case.
“Farmers affected by the clashes can follow updates, report damages, or seek assistance at district or provincial livestock offices or through the DLD 4.0 application available 24 hours. The government assures affected farmers along the Thai-Cambodian border that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is fully committed to providing support.”
