The decision is finalized: the Cabinet Secretary has sent two referendum questions to the Election Commission, proposing that the public vote simultaneously with the general election on 8 February 2026.
On 17 December 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Natthajari Anantasilp, Cabinet Secretary, sent an urgent letter to the Election Commission proposing two referendum questions about drafting a new constitution, scheduling the voting on the same day as the general election to save budget and facilitate voters.
Following the Cabinet's resolution approving a first referendum vote alongside the general election of members of the House of Representatives on 8 February 2026 GMT+7 for budget efficiency, details of the questions and procedures were sent to the Election Commission. Voters will answer two questions: one from Parliament, "Do you agree to draft a new constitution?" and one from the Cabinet, "Do you approve the drafting of a new constitution?"
The Cabinet Secretary added that beyond the questions, the urgent letter clearly outlined the workflow. The Secretariat Office will prepare decision-support information to send to the Election Commission at least 15 days before the voting announcement, for public dissemination. The Budget Office will coordinate with the Election Commission to set appropriate expenses. Cooperation is requested from state and private media to provide balanced and equal platforms for opinion expression, and from the NBTC and Election Commission to ensure the referendum voting is transparent and fair.
