Democrat Party to Launch Candidates for 33 Bangkok Constituencies on 22 Dec, Campaigning with You Can Be a Good MP Too

The Democrat Party is set to unveil candidates for 33 Bangkok constituencies, promoting the campaign "You Can Be a Good MP Too." Meanwhile, Chaiwut revealed plans to launch candidates nationwide on 25 Dec.

On 17 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Chaiwut Bannawat, Secretary-General of the Democrat Party, stated that the party expects to announce its candidates for the House of Representatives on 25 Dec. This awaits approval from the party's Executive Committee, which is scheduled to meet next week.

The candidates for Bangkok constituencies will be unveiled on 22 Dec, as the party has completed primary voting in the area. Primary voting in other areas across the country began on 17 Dec, expected to take three days before being submitted to the candidate selection committee for approval and then to the Executive Committee for endorsement. This process is anticipated to conclude by 23-24 Dec.

Regarding the Democrat Party’s prime ministerial candidates, the party leader confirmed that all three names will be proposed. It will be up to the Executive Committee to decide whether they will run as party candidates or outsiders. The announcement is expected alongside the party's candidate unveiling. The leader acknowledged that every election is a challenge for the party, which is committed to honest and just politics, stressing that without fair elections, problems will arise in the economy, politics, and national security.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sakolthee Pattiyakul, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party overseeing Bangkok, revealed that the party will introduce its 33 candidates for Bangkok on Monday, 22 Dec. Ninety percent of these candidates are newcomers, selected from 150 hopefuls, under the campaign "You Can Be a Good MP Too."

Regarding polls showing increased popularity for the Democrat Party and its leader, and whether this will translate into more Bangkok MPs, Mr. Sakolthee said the party aims to secure about 10 MPs from Bangkok according to the 17 Dec poll. He noted that Bangkok is politically sensitive and MPs often change. Historically, the party had 30 MPs in Bangkok but lost representation, so a turnaround is possible. He emphasized the need to assess the situation daily and that the party will focus on livelihood policies and public transportation systems.
