Anutin Calls Special Cabinet Meeting to Decide Single Constitutional Referendum Question After Election Commissions Rejection

Prime Minister Anutin has called a special Cabinet meeting to finalize the question for the new constitutional referendum after the Election Commission returned it, instructing that only one question be chosen because the EC lacks the authority to select it.

Reporters state that on 18 December 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has convened a special Cabinet meeting. This is the third meeting of 2025, held in Meeting Room 501, Building 1, Government House, with a single important agenda: the constitutional referendum question. At the Cabinet meeting on 16 December, two questions were sent to the Election Commission for consideration: 1. “Do you agree to have a new constitution drafted?” This was the resolution of the parliamentary session on 11 December, and 2. “Do you approve that there should be a new constitution?” This follows the Cabinet's determination and the Constitutional Court's ruling.

. This is reported: The Election Commission has replied in writing to the Cabinet that it does not have the authority to select referendum questions; the Cabinet must choose only one question and then submit it to the EC for action. The special Cabinet meeting will discuss and select the single question.
