Prime Minister Affirms Thai Governments Commitment to Combat Scammers, Calls for International Unity to Promote the Bangkok Joint Statement

The Prime Minister affirmed the Thai government's commitment to combating scammers, stressing that online fraud constitutes a global threat. He urged the international community to unite in promoting the "Bangkok Joint Statement" tomorrow, a crucial step in advancing global cooperation.

At 18:30 in Ballroom 1 of the InterContinental Hotel Bangkok, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, delivered a keynote address and joined the dinner reception for participants of the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams. This conference, initiated and hosted by Thailand in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), took place from 17–18 December 2025 GMT+7 to strengthen global partnerships against online scams.

The Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to speak at the reception, thanked all participants from various sectors, and reaffirmed the Thai government's firm commitment to combating online scams. He noted that the participation of representatives from many global regions clearly signals that "online scam crimes are no longer merely regional issues but global problems that all countries must face together." He added that the gathering of multiple nations reflects a shared determination to work in unity to address this threat.

The Prime Minister referenced his experience at recent ASEAN and APEC summits, where leaders consistently raised the issue of online scam crimes. They agreed that regardless of a country's region or development level, citizens are targeted by criminal networks exploiting legal system gaps for gain, causing severe damage to both individuals and the global economy.

"This problem highlights the shared vulnerability of the global community, which no single country can resolve alone. It requires strong political will and genuine international cooperation," the Prime Minister stated. . . .

He emphasized the government's serious prioritization of combating online scam crimes, designating it as a top government and national agenda. Proactive measures include strengthening law enforcement, establishing specialized agencies and anti-scam centers, and enhancing coordination among domestic agencies to dismantle transnational criminal networks operating within Thailand's territory.

A key lesson from the conference discussions is that strong national action must be complemented by international cooperation, as criminal networks can exchange information across borders, move funds within seconds, and adapt faster than national systems. Therefore, the global response must be closely coordinated, intelligent, and equally committed.

The Prime Minister stressed that it is time for the global community to elevate discussions toward concrete action, including enhancing intelligence and information exchange, strengthening cross-border law enforcement, and raising public awareness to prevent victimization by online scams. He noted that the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams and the "Bangkok Joint Statement" to be considered tomorrow represent important steps in driving such cooperation.

"Online scam crimes thrive due to a lack of unified cooperation but weaken when all countries unite. Thailand is ready to work with all countries and sectors to transform these discussions into sustainable partnerships that yield tangible results in combating online scams globally," the Prime Minister said.

He concluded by wishing everyone a happy weekend and stated that with collective effort, Thailand is prepared to work with all discussions today to maintain genuine cooperation and outcomes. He expressed hope for constructive debates tomorrow and thanked attendees for participating in this important event despite it being a time when they might prefer celebrating holidays at home. He underscored that their presence shows they are not in Bangkok for leisure but to combat scammers.
