Former Chiang Mai MP Leaves Pheu Thai for People’s Party, Citing Broken Promises to the People

"Tassanee Boonrungphon," former Chiang Mai MP, has discarded her Pheu Thai Party shirt to don that of the People’s Party instead. She declared that in this election, if the country is to improve, there can be no middle ground.

On 18 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Tassanee Boonrungphon, former Chiang Mai MP from Pheu Thai Party, officially announced her candidacy on the party-list for the People’s Party. She presented a strong political stance, stating that the country’s situation has reached its worst point and cannot afford to regress further.

Ms. Tassanee said this election is crucial for the country's direction because there is no longer a middle ground or neutral space to choose. The people must decisively decide whether to stay the same or to improve the country. Exercising their vote is not merely choosing MPs but selecting the future and a truly people-derived government. A government capable of real change must be clear and uncompromising against wrongdoing.

Ms. Tassanee opened up about her decision to leave her former party, Pheu Thai, saying it occurred when the party crossed a line, breaking the commitments it had made to the people. When trust was destroyed, she chose a new ideological path starting with the Progressive Movement (formerly) and now with the People’s Party. She is confident the public understands her reasons for switching camps this time.

The former Chiang Mai MP also criticized the government led by Pheu Thai, noting that despite governing for over two years, there has been no progress on critical issues like constitutional reform. Even the Memorandum of Agreement with the Bhumjaithai Party has failed to produce tangible results. She acknowledged that the People’s Party may have made management mistakes but learned that it cannot rely on anything other than the people’s voice. She urged voters in the next election to support only the People’s Party to carry out the mission of constitutional reform and build a new economic system successfully.

“If the People’s Party becomes the government, there will be no gray areas in national governance. Everything must be transparent, clear, and prioritize standing with the people,” Ms. Tassanee concluded.
