Government Warns of Heavy Rain for 2 Consecutive Days Yellow Flag Raised in 4 Hatyai Communities

The Hatyai Municipality has raised a "yellow flag" alert in four communities. The government spokesperson urges residents to closely monitor water levels in canals, reservoirs, and flood retention basins after two days of continuous heavy rain. All agencies are on alert and ready to respond promptly to the situation.

On 18 December 2025, Mr. Siripong Angkasungkiat, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that The Flood Prevention and Mitigation Command Center of Hatyai Municipality, Songkhla Province, issued its sixth statement regarding the flood situation within the Hatyai Municipality area. It reported that due to heavy rain starting late last night (17 December 2025) and continuing to the present, cumulative rainfall at the Khlong Rian flood retention basin station has reached 140 millimeters. This has caused rising water levels in the Mae Rian and Hoi Khong canals, with forecasts indicating continued rain in the area from afternoon until evening today.

Water levels in various canals as of 12:00 noon today are as follows:

1. Khlong U-Taphao near Ban Muang Kong is 5.22 meters below the embankment, and near Ban Bang Sala is 5.15 meters below the embankment.

2. Khlong Wa is 2.98 meters below the embankment.

3. Khlong Toei is 3.00 meters below the embankment.

4. The Khlong Rian flood retention basin is 1.93 meters below the embankment.

5. The Khlong Sadao reservoir holds 53.82 million cubic meters of water, which is 94.86% of its capacity.

The spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister added that, given this situation, the Flood Prevention and Mitigation Command Center of Hatyai Municipality has raised the alert level to “yellow flag” for residents in areas along Sam Sip Met Road, Suphasan Rangsan Road, Thammanoon Vithi Road, Prachathipat Road, including side alleys of these roads, as well as the Chan Wirot, Chan Prateep, Chan Niwet, and Rattanawiboon communities. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare accordingly and monitor updates closely from Hatyai Municipality to ensure safety of life and property.

“At present, all relevant agencies have fully prepared to handle any potential situations, maintaining close surveillance and monitoring to respond promptly and provide effective assistance to the public,” he said.
