Government Pleased as Bangkok Tops List of Most Visited Cities by Tourists

The government is pleased that Bangkok has secured first place as the city with the most tourist visits in 2025. It forecasts a 3% increase in total flights in 2026 and has ordered preparations to accommodate the rise in flights during the New Year period.

On 19 December 2025, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that the government is pleased with the global market survey by Euromonitor International titled Top 100 City Destinations Index 2025. Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, ranked first as the city with the highest number of international visitors in 2025, welcoming up to 30.3 million foreign tourists. This underscores the government's tourism promotion policies and reflects the image of Thai people as gracious hosts welcoming visitors from around the world.

Ms. Airin further revealed that according to data from the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Limited (AEROTHAI) for fiscal year 2025 (September 2024 - October 2025), Thailand recorded a total of 904,796 flights, with an increase toward the year's end. The December 2025 Winter Schedule shows 84,543 flights, and January 2026 is expected to have 87,835 flights in total.

Meanwhile, the forecast for fiscal year 2026 (September 2025 - October 2026) estimates a total of 928,165 flights, comprising 473,364 international flights, 343,422 domestic flights, and 111,379 overflights. This averages 2,543 flights per day, a 3% increase from the previous year.

During the extended New Year holiday period (29 December 2025 - 7 January 2026), total flights are expected to reach 27,632, averaging 2,763 flights daily. The government has instructed relevant agencies to prepare and implement various measures to handle the increased flight volume during the 2026 New Year festival to ensure safe, efficient air traffic management and reduce delays.
