On Monday, 22 December, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva will lead a policy announcement. Tomorrow (20 Dec), a poll will open for public input on past grievances.

The key process for politicians and parties is campaigning and listening. Currently, the party campaigns that Thailand will not endure, and listens to what problems people have faced. This is the focus for the coming three days. Afterwards, solutions will be proposed. Party leader Abhisit himself will announce how these problems will be addressed, which will be the core of the second phase of campaigning.

Regarding economic issues, the Democrat Party is confident due to the leader being an economist capable of overseeing the economy as a whole. Additionally, the four deputy leaders are directly involved in economic matters, unlike other parties which may have economic teams. This gives confidence that the party can solve economic problems as well as others.

Asked if the party’s prime ministerial candidate will be an insider, Pol. Lt. Col. Pongsakorn said it must be a party member. When asked if an outsider could be a professional politician, he could not answer yet but expects the candidate to have real expertise in relevant areas.

When asked about the party’s analysis of strengths and weaknesses of other parties’ prime ministerial candidates, "Candidates from all parties are diverse in many aspects, and some parties, like Bhumjaithai, have yet to reveal theirs. The Democrat Party aims to present a comprehensive approach. Regarding competitiveness, we believe we definitely will not lose. Our candidate can effectively carry out important national duties." Pol. Lt. Col. Pongsakorn said.

Regarding the announcement of Bangkok MP candidates, the list has been finalized by the party executive committee. Asked about their competitiveness,"We are quite confident in their qualifications. In Bangkok, 150 people applied, but only 33 were selected, a very selective process, so the remaining candidates are highly capable."

The Democrat Party spokesperson added that in the election arena,in the South, the Democrat Partyis regaining popularity after a Nida Poll survey showed"The party's popularity has steadily increased, greatly encouraging its candidates. If the public agrees with the policies to be announced on Monday, 22 December, the party has a good chance of winning in the South and other areas."

Meanwhile, the spokesperson was cautious about whether the other two prime ministerial candidates, Ms. Kardee Liao-pairoj and Mr. Weeraphong Prapa, would be confirmed.: "Both are knowledgeable and capable individuals, not inferior to other parties’ candidates, certainly able to handle key policies. However, the final decision rests with the party executive committee, and the candidate must be a Democrat Party member." Pol. Lt. Col. Pongsakorn said.

Regarding the newness of candidates,"The Democrat Party does not prioritize newness but focuses on professionalism, understanding new technologies, new economies, and adaptability. These are more important than political novelty."

On national security given current conditions, the Democrat Party issued a statement on the Thai-Cambodian border situation. First, they support actions by state officials, especially the military, which the government must fully back, including all personnel affected by the dispute, such as displaced persons and locals, offering them encouragement.

Second, the public should fully cooperate with state agencies, including evacuation efforts for safety.

Third and most importantly, diplomacy must proceed alongside military action. Effective diplomacy can reduce casualties and military burdens. The Democrat Party places great importance on this and fully supports the armed forces.
