Academic Predicts High Chance of Bhumjaithai Party Comeback Due to Strong Work Image

Yutthaporn analyzes the election game, highlighting that Bhumjaithai is opening the way for talented individuals, with a high chance of a comeback. Attention is on Sihasak to continue foreign affairs work.

On 19 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Associate Professor Dr. Yutthaporn Isarachai, a political science lecturer at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, commented on Bhumjaithai Party's political direction following the appearance of Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the party. He sees several possible roles, including as a prime ministerial candidate or on the party-list.

Dr. Yutthaporn stated that Mr. Sihasak may not be a mass movement figure but serves as a symbol showing that Bhumjaithai prioritizes selecting “talented” and “suitable” individuals to govern the country, similar to executives like Mr. Akniti Nititanprapas and Mrs. Supajee Suthumpan, who hold key positions.

“Choosing Mr. Sihasak to oversee foreign affairs is putting the right man on the right job, unlike many past governments, which satisfies society, especially given his work on managing Thai-Cambodian border issues,” Dr. Yutthaporn said.

Regarding the post-election scenario, Dr. Yutthaporn believes Bhumjaithai has a high chance of returning to government for three main reasons: coordination ability—although they may rank second in votes, Bhumjaithai excels at building compromise and coordinating with all parties to form a government; the strength of both small and large factions; and the signals of various political groups joining the party, significantly increasing the blue party’s weight and voter base.

Dr. Yutthaporn assesses that this election will be highly intense, predicting that the People's Party and Bhumjaithai will have similar vote counts. Pheu Thai is likely to drop to third place, with all three parties having a comparable number of MPs. No party will win decisively, making coalition negotiations crucial, where Bhumjaithai maintains a strategic advantage.
