Pheu Thai Exposes Large-Scale Interior Ministry Civil Servant Transfers: 395 Positions, Suggesting Election Manipulation Favoring Local Power Groups

The spokesperson of the Pheu Thai Party revealed figures showing a large-scale transfer of senior civil servants up to district chief level, noting an unusually high proportion close to the election period and pointing out links to the "Buriram-Local Power" network.

On 19 Dec 2025, Mr. Sukit Srichomkwan, spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, held a press conference expressing concerns about the lack of transparency in recent transfers of civil servants within the Ministry of Interior. He described it as a massive reshuffle unprecedented even among ministry officials themselves. An examination of data from 14 Oct to 18 Dec 2025 showed a total of 395 transferred positions, including 50 provincial governors, 5 department directors-general, 40 provincial permanent secretaries, and 200 district chiefs.

Mr. Sukit pointed out that a worrying aspect is that many appointed individuals have close ties to networks in certain provinces, particularly during the tenure of Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul as Minister of Interior. Notably, the two most recent directors-general of the Department of Provincial Administration were former governors of Buriram Province. This department oversees local officials including village headmen, village chiefs, and volunteer defense forces totaling over 300,000 people, which can influence elections. Additionally, the director-general of the Department of Lands, involved in the Khao Kradong land case, is also the son of a former Buriram governor.

The Pheu Thai spokesperson further noted irregularities at the district level, where transfers align with areas controlled by the "Local Power" group that joined the Bhumjaithai Party. Examples include six districts in Chonburi Province, four in Suphan Buri, two in Nakhon Ratchasima, and similar patterns in Nakhon Pathom Province.

The spokesperson also referenced remarks by Mr. Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, who stated that such high-level civil servant transfers do not affect election outcomes. He suggested that Mr. Thanathorn may lack experience in public administration or might have other hidden reasons for his view. The spokesperson called on the public to closely monitor ongoing transfers to determine whether they serve the people's interests or are politically motivated to prepare for elections.
