Government Warns Over 100,000 Student Loan Borrowers to Settle or Restructure Debt by December

The government warns over 100,000 SLF borrowers to quickly settle their accounts as per the debt amounts shown in the SLF Connect app or restructure debts online by December. Those who miss the deadline will face legal action.

On 20 December 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that the Student Loan Fund (SLF) had filed lawsuits against borrowers who defaulted in 2016. The court ruled for repayment by over 100,000 individuals, but these borrowers have yet to fully repay their debts as ordered by the court.

Ms. Airin added that SLF has continuously notified borrowers and guarantors through letters and phone calls and followed debt collection procedures. However, borrowers have neither repaid as per the court’s judgment nor contacted SLF. Nine years have passed, forcing SLF to proceed with legal enforcement by preparing to issue enforcement orders against these borrowers.

“If borrowers wish to avoid SLF taking legal enforcement actions such as seizing or freezing assets of the borrower and/or guarantor, they should settle their debts according to the amounts shown in the SLF Connect app. If unable to fully repay as per the court judgment, they can enter into an online debt restructuring agreement at www.studentloan.or.th by December 2025. We urge borrowers to repay because these student loans come from public budget funds derived from taxpayers and must be recycled to provide educational opportunities for future generations.”
