The Pheu Thai Party has urged the Election Commission (EC) to enforce strict oversight to ensure a fair and clean election after prospective MPs reported that individuals in positions of power have intimidated and harassed them, creating fear during the election campaign.
On 20 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party, and Mr. Prasert Chandraruangthong, Secretary-General of the party, held a press conference calling on the Election Commission to maintain election integrity after observing behaviors by certain groups abusing power to intimidate candidates and instill fear during the campaign.
Mr. Prasert stated that the Pheu Thai Party has received reports from prospective parliamentary candidates, party members, and supporters across multiple areas regarding individuals or groups allegedly abusing power to intimidate candidates, their teams, and supporters. These actions have caused concern and fear about campaigning to support the party, stemming from groups with opposing political ideologies. In some locations, such behavior risks improper use of power. He therefore called on the EC to oversee these matters immediately, as the campaign period begins, to ensure the election is conducted with utmost fairness and integrity.
He emphasized that especially during the election campaign, certain factions with a negative reputation for abusing power unfairly currently hold authority. Therefore, there should be no allowance for gaps or loopholes that could give rise to accusations of improper exercise of power in the election process.
Currently, the Pheu Thai Party has instructed all party sectors to prepare evidence of any behaviors potentially constituting abuse of power, intimidation, harassment, or any acts suggesting misuse of authority. This evidence will be compiled and submitted to relevant authorities to ensure that the upcoming election is as fair and just as possible.
A Peaceful Resolution with "Chaiya Phromma"; Party Has Found a Replacement Candidate
Mr. Prasert also addressed the case of Mr. Chaiya Phromma, former MP for Nong Bua Lamphu, who resigned, stating that there were no issues. The Pheu Thai Party has already found a replacement candidate for that constituency. Mr. Chaiya submitted his resignation letter to the party, expressing gratitude for their collaboration. The resignation letter stated the reason as follows: "I have decided for political reasons related to Nong Bua Lamphu province and not for any personal benefit whatsoever." During his time with the Pheu Thai Party, Mr. Chaiya received support as Deputy Speaker of the House and participated actively in party activities. Ultimately, the party acknowledged and respected his decision and has already arranged for a new candidate.
Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Deputy Leader of the party, added that this election differs from previous ones due to rampant party switching and what could be called Money Politics — massive financial spending to win elections. This cycle leads to a corrupt political system and capital flight, which have occurred before and pose dangers to the country. He urged all political parties to refrain from such practices and to prioritize national interest and democracy. The Pheu Thai Party anticipates fierce competition based largely on such factors, possibly leading to electoral fraud. The party will establish an anti-corruption center and will provide updates on progress in due course.
