On 20 Dec 2025 GMT+7, General Chaiphruek Duangprapat, Army Chief of Staff, provided an update on the clashes in the Prasat Ta Kwai area and near Hill 350 in Surin province along the Thai-Cambodian border. This area has seen heavy fighting over recent days, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers. Previously, their bodies could not be retrieved from the area. He said that military units operating there have now located the two bodies and are carefully inspecting the area, as there is a possibility that Cambodian forces may have placed explosive devices there.
General Chaiphruek also confirmed that the two soldiers’ bodies will be returned to their hometowns for funerals conducted with full military honors.
This aligns with statements from Lieutenant General Weerayut Raksin, Commander of the Second Army Region, who said that Hill 350 has now been secured following coordinated orders with the Commander of the Suranaree Task Force. He emphasized the need for caution and thoroughness because Cambodian forces violated the Ottawa Treaty by laying landmines throughout the area. The bodies of the two heroic soldiers are currently being transported down to flat ground.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesman, reported that the army has received the latest updates from the Second Army Region concerning the combat situation along the border near Prasat Ta Kwai and Hill 350. The Second Army Region reported discovering the bodies of two fallen soldiers: Sergeant Major Samrerng Khlangprakorn and Private Phanupat Saosa in the operational area. The bodies of these two heroes are now being moved back to rear areas.
Regarding territorial control, Thai forces have initially secured the area and are continuing efforts to establish lasting security at the site. Further details will be provided by the army in due course.
