The Election Commission announced the referendum voting day will be the same day as the election day. The announcement is pending publication in the Government Gazette to become effective, confirming that voting must take place only on 8 February 2026 GMT+7.
On 20 December 2025 GMT+7, at the Election Commission office, reporters were informed that the Election Commission issued regulations on the referendum voting, setting the voting day to coincide with the general election of new House of Representatives members in 2026, specifically on 8 February 2026 GMT+7. This follows the Referendum Act of 2021 and its 2025 amendments, which require the Prime Minister to consult with the Election Commission to set the referendum date. If the general election occurs near the same time, the referendum and election days may be set to coincide. The Election Commission has thus issued regulations to accommodate this and is awaiting publication on the Government Gazette website.
The Election Commission office stated that there will be no advance voting for the referendum because the Referendum Act stipulates that voting must occur nationwide on the same day. However, out-of-district voting will be allowed on 8 February 2026 GMT+7 to facilitate voters. For example, residents registered in Songkhla province can register to vote outside their district without traveling to their home district to vote. The Election Commission will announce registration details later. Once these regulations take effect, the registration period for out-of-district referendum voting will likely coincide or overlap with the registration period for out-of-district and overseas voting for the general election.
