Foreign Ministry Emphasizes No Pressure Against Thailand at ASEAN Ministers Meeting on 22 Dec

Foreign Minister Sihasak is preparing to attend the special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Malaysia on 22 December. The Foreign Ministry emphasized there is no pressure that would put Thailand at a disadvantage; rather, it is an opportunity to explain all information and evidence related to the situation.

At 2:30 p.m. on 20 December 2025 GMT+7, at the Joint Press Center for the Thailand-Cambodia Situation, Channel 5, Mrs. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Malaysia on 22 December. She said that tomorrow (21 December), Foreign Minister Sihasak Puangketkaew will lead the Thai delegation, consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and security agencies, to Malaysia to attend the meeting.

Previously, there have been more expressions of views from various countries, such as the U.S. Secretary of State and China's special envoy visiting Cambodia. They confirmed that the meeting on 22 December will not impose any pressure on Thailand causing disadvantage. Thailand's position has always been a desire for peace; it is not the party threatening or encroaching on another country's sovereignty. We have been clear and consistent in affirming this. Thailand seeks genuine and sustainable peace.

Cambodia must show sincerity on this matter by: 1. Being the party to declare a ceasefire first, as it is the country attacking another; 2. Ensuring the ceasefire is real and continuous; 3. Demonstrating sincerity in cooperating with Thailand to clear landmines—something unacceptable to Thailand and requiring joint resolution. All of this depends on assessments by security agencies in the area working with the Foreign Ministry to proceed accordingly.

The Deputy Spokesperson reiterated that the ASEAN forum is important and beneficial to Thailand. It provides an opportunity for us to clearly explain and present all facts and evidence that have been gathered since the second round of incidents. The public can be confident that Thailand's stance is based on undeniable facts and evidence.
