The Democrat Party launched its "Thailand Out of Poverty" campaign to contest the 2026 election. Abhisit emphasized zero tolerance for poverty, shadow capital, and corruption, while unveiling prospective MPs for all 33 Bangkok constituencies under the slogan “New Bangkok Sky, Further Than Before.”
Today, 22 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Democrat Party launched its election campaign named “Thailand Out of Poverty” which will be the party’s policy direction, pledging to bring change so that Thai people and Thailand can escape from the state of “barely surviving” to “Thailand out of poverty.”
Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, said that poverty here is not just about financial lack but refers to poverty in all aspects—poverty of knowledge due to poor-quality education, lack of creativity, despair without solutions, and dead ends with no future. Thai people and the country face many issues, from immediate personal problems such as low income, high living costs, heavy debt, PM 2.5 dust, flooding, to threats from fraudsters.
Abhisit pointed out that the country's long-term problems include a weak economy, outdated technology, poor education, inequality, social injustice, and an aging population. The most severe and worsening issue is corruption, along with gray-zone politicians who use elections to launder themselves and shadow capital exploiting the stock market to launder money. These problems remain unsolved, leaving the public with no clear way out. People have endured these conditions for over a decade, living in resignation and merely surviving day by day.
The Democrat Party believes that Thai people and the country must no longer tolerate this—no more poverty, no more shadow capital, no more corruption—and pledges to bring change together with the public to achieve a Thailand out of poverty.
Abhisit said that after launching the campaign, the Democrat Party and all its candidates will communicate clear, practical policies to the public through all communication channels to achieve the goal of “Thailand Out of Poverty.”
Declines to confirm if “Karn Dee” will be a Democrat Party prime ministerial candidate.
When asked about the timing of the announcement of the party’s three prime ministerial candidates, Abhisit briefly said it would be within this week. Asked if one of the three candidates includes Dr. Karn Dee Liewpairon, Chief Foresight Officer of FutureTales Lab, he said yes, within this week. When asked again if one of the three candidates is a woman, he repeated, within this week.
Democrat Party introduces prospective MPs for all 33 Bangkok constituencies.
Meanwhile, on 22 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Democrat Party also unveiled prospective MPs for all 33 Bangkok constituencies. Before the introduction, the party showed videos featuring Abhisit and the theme “New Bangkok Sky, Further Than Before.” Afterwards, Abhisit delivered a vision speech to the party's prospective Bangkok MPs.
Abhisit said he first congratulated the Democrat Party’s prospective MPs for Bangkok constituencies, noting that the party has had the highest number of candidates in history this time. It is also the first time multiple processes were used, from inviting candidates to submit vision clips demonstrating their commitment and intentions, to answering questions and discussing Bangkok’s issues, followed by interviews by the selection committee before the executive committee made the final decisions.
“At the start, I want everyone to feel proud because the public will decide if the party chose the right people. Now that all 33 candidates wear this shirt and are heading into the Bangkok election field, I will spend the early period explaining our mission.”
Abhisit also said Bangkok is the capital and the center of everything in the country—economically and administratively. Historically, Bangkok has been the political heart, often setting or opposing political trends. Opposition parties have often received overwhelming support here. The role of MPs is to represent all Thai people, and Bangkok residents seem to understand this, as in past elections they often made their decisions based on party politics, resulting in clear outcomes one way or the other.
The Democrat Party has won the hearts of voters many times, with overwhelming victories in MP elections and having governors elected twice recently. Abhisit believes that in years ending with the digit 9, the Democrat Party has always won, earning every vote through its own efforts and support. He then asked what the party currently offers society.
Abhisit stated that after the recent executive committee changes about two months ago, the party has clearly declared it will no longer tolerate these issues. What is most desired is honest politics. Ideals such as honesty, integrity, and respect for democracy should not be seen as abstract but relate closely to people’s lives. During the campaign, he guarantees a focus on “mass transit competition,” affirming that between parties free from conflicts of interest and those entangled in them, voters will see who can deliver better mass transit conditions.
From now until election day, the party must be a voice for its stance. The promises of no tolerance must start, with campaigning under legal frameworks and honesty. As a politician, Abhisit emphasized the importance of rules, etiquette, and adhering to correct paths to build good political standards. He took this opportunity to introduce the candidates so the public and media can get to know them better.
At the end, Abhisit wished all candidates determination and success in their work to bring honest politics to change the country.
